At Pyrology, scientific validity is everything. We emphasize this because the conclusions made by fire investigators are used in the judicial system; they have real consequences for real people. Pyrology was built around the principle that every fire investigator should be able to qualify as an expert witness when given the proper training and opportunities for coaching.

 

Each one of our service areas is directly related to qualifications for an expert witness (Rule 702). We help fire investigators become and stay qualified through training. We teach the use of the scientific method and the collection of sufficient data from fire scenes. We perform technical reviews of reports to ensure that the investigator's opinion is based on sufficient data, and that the data was obtained from the proper application of the scientific method. As expert witnesses, we review cases for scientific validity and provide the judicial system with the information they need to make difficult decisions.
