Dr. Paul Ayres
Dr. Ayres has served in the fire service since 2010 and in law enforcement since 2015. He holds multiple master-level certifications through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and is also licensed as a Private Investigator in the State of Texas. He is credentialed as a Certified Fire Investigator IAAI-CFI(V) and a Certified International Post-Blast Investigator CIPBI. He holds an associate's degree in Fire Science Technology, a bachelor's degree in Emergency Management Administration, a graduate certificate in Homeland Security, a master's degree in Public Service and Administration, and a PhD in Forensic Sciences.
Throughout his career, he has investigated several hundred fire/explosion incidents. Some of his more complex cases have involved multiple fatalities, concealment of homicide or other crimes, targeting of government facilities, residential and commercial fuel-gas explosions, and explosions resulting from the construction and use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In total, he has been involved in 30 fatal fire/explosion incidents involving 44 victims.
In addition to investigations, Dr. Ayres has taught college-level fire science courses since 2016. He currently serves as Lecturer/Director of the Emergency Services Administration program at the University of North Texas at Dallas. He is a guest instructor for the Forensic Fire Death Investigation course hosted by the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University, where he has participated in over 30 live fire experiments involving human cadavers. He is also a contract instructor for the Fire Executive Management Training (FEMT) program at Sam Houston State University.
